To Schedule an Appointment Please Call
Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin.
Appointments usually take 2 to 3 hours, and in the case of comprehensive neuropsychological testing can take up to 8 hours (which we split up over several appointments). We will let you know when you schedule your assessment how long you should expect to be with us.
We always try to complete the testing as quickly as possible, however in most cases we can only go as fast as the patient is capable of going. So please come to the appointment prepared for your stay. We have a very comfortable waiting room.
For longer testing sessions we take breaks often and in some cases we can split up the testing over two separate appointments if it makes it easier for the patient, or the caregivers.
What we do
Before the Appointment
Prior to the appointment, our office will send out rating scale forms to the patient's caregivers and teachers (if applicable) asking them to rate the patient's behaviors in various situations.
The Intake Interview
We'll begin with a detailed interview with the patient and caregivers. The conversation will be casual. In the case of small children, Dr. Larery will often get down on the floor to talk with, and play with, the children directly. Play is an excellent demonstrator of behaviors such as cooperative play, imaginative play, social interaction and other behaviors.
Testing is done separate from caregivers. In the case of small children or the elderly who have difficulty with long testing periods there are frequent breaks. Testing is done using standardized tests that are specifically correlated to the patient's demographic.
Upon the completion of the testing a follow-up appointment will be scheduled.
Scoring, Analysis and Report Preparation
Dr. Larery will begin compiling all the test data, observations from her interview and testing, and review any rating scales.
Dr. Larery will then prepare a detailed and comprehensive diagnostic report listing observations, test results, diagnosis and suggestions for treatments or referrals.
The turn-around time for the report is usually one week, however 2-day turn around can be accomodated in exceptional cases (at additional charge).
The patient and caregivers will retun for a 30-minute feeback session where Dr. Larery will review the entire report and explain the results as well as answer any questions. She will then provide the completed report to the patient.
An Office Tour:
To aid patients who may have difficulty in new environments and situations we provide below two brief videos which will give our patients a quick preview of our office and a brief introduction to Dr. Larery. This is so that their arrival in the office and their meeting with Dr. Larery won't actually be a new or upsetting experience for them.
